Images of the Sacred

Dear Friends,

Some years back, I produced a recording called Lay It Down: Images of the Sacred.  I wanted to give voice to the many women, particularly Biblical women, who often lacked names or voices.  This was followed later by a multi-media presentation called Daughters of Lilith.  I consider both of these projects my own “midrash”, my own thoughts about the feminine presence within the divine.

In my tradition, it is nearing Easter.  So I am sharing three songs from these projects.

Mary, Mary is about the mother of Jesus.  She is said to have said in Luke 1, the Magnificat-

…he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.  He has brought down rulers from their thrones, but has lifted up the humble.  He has filled the hungry with good things, but has sent the rich away empty.

Waiting for the Morning,”   I created this as an image of Mary Magdalene after Jesus’s crucifixion.

'“Womanspirit,”   I use the images of the creation in Genesis.  For me, birth comes from the female face of God.  So, I believe, will come the new birth so essential to the planet’s salvation.

Lay It Down: Images of the Sacred is available on my website.

May this Spring bring us the wisdom of our ancestors and the courageous hearts needed in these times.
